New Assembly Hall - Jangchub Choeling Monastery

10 January 2025 Ground Breaking Ceremony On this day, Maniwa Sherab Gyaltsen Rinpoche, Dupseng Rinpoche and Shangpa Rinpoche performed a ground breaking ceremony for the construction of a new assembly hall in Jangchub Choeling Monastery in Pokhara. Message from Shangpa Rinpoche: Jangchub Choeling Monastery (JCM) was established in 1967. It is one of the oldest and most prominent monasteries in Pokhara. Since then, the number of monks has steadily increased. In response to this growth, we also founded Buddhist learning institutes (Vikramashila Buddhist Institute in Pokhara and in Balaju) and a retreat center (Karma Ngedon Palbar Ling in Sarangkot) to provide a strong foundation in Dharma education and spiritual practice for our sangha and also lay practitioners. With approximately 170 monks, our current shrine hall in JCM can no longer accommodate everyone. Additionally, many lay devotees wish to attend our pujas and teachings but are unable to do so due to space limitations. Often, tentages were temporary set up to cater to larger groups of participants during pujas and teaching program but these are vulnerable to weather and durability. To address this, we plan to construct a larger assembly hall near the monastery. The local administration has generously granted us land for this purpose, and we aim to begin construction as soon as possible. The JCM administration will oversee the project, and financial assistance will be mainly from monastery, Rinpoches and our disciples. I humbly request my disciples and all devoted supporters to participate in this noble endeavour in any way possible—whether through donations or other forms of support. On 10 January 2025, Maniwa Sherab Gyaltsen Rinpoche, Dupseng Rinpoche and myself held the auspicious ground-breaking ceremony for the new monastery’s shrine hall, and construction will commence soon. With everyone’s support, this new hall will benefit sangha and lay practitioners for generations after generations. May this project bring great benefit to all sentient beings through the spread of the Buddha Dharma. Lama Amrit, Chiu Yuin and Sandy are assisting me with this donation drive. With gratitude, Shangpa Rinpoche 8 February 2025
