"Close To My Heart
I am very excited about the launch of my biography on my birthday dinner because this work was done over a period of many years. Hundreds of hours were undertaken to ensure that my life details are accurately portrayed. We have already published the Nepali version a few years before and it was successfully distributed amongst Nepalese readers.
This book is very close to my heart as it conveys my childhood memories, my mother’s unconditional affection and struggles, and my karmic destination. From the moment I was recognized as a tulku by HH the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa, my life changed from that of a supposedly ordinary boy to one filled with meaningful life’s purposes. Having the guidance from great masters and gurus, I learn to understand hardships, face life’s challenges and eventually how to overcome each and every one of them triumphantly. Hence the title of the biography “Triumph”. I hope my humble life stories in this book can inspire and resonate with you. To Rinpoche, flowers represent everyone's innate potential in attaining enlightenment. Like each flower that blossoms under the righ conditions, we possess the intrinsic Buddha nature capable of achieving perfect wisdom and clarity within this samsaric world.
This book entitled "Shangpa RInpoche's Photo Journal" was published in 2009.
"Photography was my childhood interest. When I was 13 years old, I made a request to my teacher to be allowed to buy a small plastic camera which only costs 16 Nepalese rupees (less than 50 Singapore cents). He finally allowed me to buy it. Since then I have been taking photos whenever I get an opportunity. The subjects for taking photos in earlier times for me were mainly Buddha images and stupas which people love to put on shrines. This was because it was very hard to get any images of Buddhas or high Lamas in those times. Taking such photographs were therefore beneficial to people.
Eventually my interest shifted towards other subjects like the amazing beauty of nature such as the Himalayan mountains, different customs and expressions of people. Flowers are my favorite subject for photography, I like flowers very much. When I focus on a flower, I think that since such a beautiful appearance can come from seemingly unclean soul, so if one has the seed or cause then what is impure can also be a favourable condition for purity. For example, we are in the mundane world, but if we recognize our worldly emotions and properly apply the right method and wisom, we will be able to transform them to enlightenment."
Seven Points of Mind Training - Practical Instructions on the Path to Awakening was published in September 2007. This book is a compilation of the teachings given by Shangpa Rinpoche in Singapore during the months of June and July 2000 and again in 2006 and 2007.
