12 October 2023 Shangpa Rinpoche visited and paid his respects to Kyabgon Gongma Trichen Rinpoche in Nepal. Kyabgon Gongma Trichen Rinpoche served as the 41st head of the Sakya Order of Tibetan Buddhism until March 2017, when he handed over his duties to Ratna Vajra Rinpoche, the 42nd Sakya Trinzin.

Annually, Karma Kagyud Buddhist Centre Singapore organizes a birthday dinner to celebrate Shangpa Rinpoche's birthday. Rinpoche's birthday falls on 12 September on a Tuesday. Hence, this year an early dinner celebration was scheduled for 9 September 2023, a Saturday. Below is Shangpa Rinpoche's birthday message in summary. When Rinpoche first came to Singapore in 1982, he was very young and did not know much about the world. Nonetheless, he never felt alone because many friends and disciples in Singapore gave him care, love and support right from day one until today. With that, he manages to fulfill all his projects one by one such as Jangchub Choeling Monastery (Pokhara), Kagyud Institute of Buddhist Studies (Kitirpur), Tharpa Choeling Nunnery (Muktinath) as well as Drubyud Choeling Monastery (Lumbini). Without everyone's support, Rinpoche said it was not possible for him alone to complete all these. Therefore, he gave credit of all the projects he undertook to each and everyone who whole-heartedly supported him and his visions. Rinpoche also shared about the current projects of Kutsab Ternga (Jomsom) and Dharmakaya Buddha Mandala (Pokhara). Surprise Birthday Greetings from His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa Trinley Thaye Dorje via a pre-recorded video message that was played during the dinner. (Reproduced verbatim below) "Good evening everyone. Today I am here to offer my sincere and deepest birthday wishes to our dear Shangpa Rinpoche. I am sure many of you are there in person to celebrate his birthday, as well as there must be many others around the world who are using this occasion to wish for his longevity and for all of his activities to flourish. And I do the same from here. The most important thing I think is, as a birthday gift, from a student to a teacher, or let's say a junior spiritual practitioner to a senior one, the most important thing or the most important offering or gift one could say, in this case a birthday gift, is to dedicate one's body, speech and mind for the dharma, meaning for the Buddha dharma. When that happens or one does that genuinely from the heart, the teacher can recognize that, can feel that, and then therefore, the teachers feel somewhat encouraged to remain and to continue turning the wheel of dharma. So in this case, that's something that I thought I would share with all of you. So I do that. Besides that, I hope it's a wonderful celebration. རིན་པོ་ཆེ། སྐུ་ཚེ་ཞབས་པད་བརྟན། ཐུགས་བཞེད་ལྷུན་གྱི་འགྲུབ་པ་དང་མཛད་འཕྲིན་རྒྱས་པའི་སྨོན་ལམ་ཞུ་གི་ཡོད།. "
